Prevalence and factors associated with gummy smile in adolescents

c Aim: To evaluate the prevalence and factors associated with gummy smiles in adolescents aged between 15 18 years attending high school. Methods: The cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out during Covid-19 pandemic, 160 adolescents, from two public (A1) private (A2) schools chosen by lottery, divided into groups: G1 (with smile) G2 (no smile). A clinical examination on investigating presence or absence of a smile (GS), analyzing variables (interlabial distance at rest, upper incisor exposure arc, measurement subnasal to lip philtrum, length, thickness, hypermobility lower/middle third ratio). Means dispersion were obtained, Chi-square association test applied, compare results A1 A2 G2. Results: GS 33.8% (=54). It found that no statistically significant associations (p > 0.05), regarding type school gender adolescents. There difference (χ² = 1.82; p 0.07) groups age studied < 0.05).
